Clarissa Pinkola Estés is an American poetess, Jungian psychoanalyst and post-trauma specialist best known for her books: Untie the Strong Woman: Blessed Mother's Immaculate Love for the Wild Soul, The Faithful Gardener: A Wise Tale About that Which Can Never Die, The Gift of Story: A Wise Tale About What is Enough, and her spoken word poetry collection comprising of: The Dangerous Old Woman: Myths and Stories of the Wise Woman Archetype, The Power of the Crone: Myths and Stories of The Dangerous Old Woman and Her Special Wisdom, How To Be An Elder: Myths and Stories of The Dangerous Old Woman, and Theatre of the Imagination.

Clarissa worked with World War veterans, Korean and Vietnam war soldiers to help them cope with quadriplegia at Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Hospital in Hines, Illinois. She was awarded the first Joseph Campbell Keeper of the Lore Award, the Las Primeras Award, calling her “The First of Her Kind” from the Mexican American Women's Foundation, the Gradiva Award from the National Association for her contributions towards the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, and the Catholic Press Award for her literary achievements.
