Rated 18 by PEGI, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! is a single-player/multiplayer/co-op first-person shooter/action role-playing game for the PC which is the third installment in the Borderlands game series; this game serves as a prequel to Borderlands 2.

The storyline of this high-octane game follows Handsome Jack as he tries to escape the Hyperion moonbase and seize it for himself. The central characters, i.e., Wilhelm "the Enforcer", Athena "the Gladiator", Claptrap "the Fragtrap" and Nisha "the Lawbringer", start the game off as Handsome Jack’s henchmen. Though, Jack is initially a good-natured individual, the plot witnesses his dark transformation into a brutal villain who enjoys ripping people’s eyeballs out of their sockets with a spoon. This game tries to explore the idea of how villains might not be as horrible as they seem, that sometimes they do the bad things that they do for good reasons.

The innovative gameplay of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! fuses first-person shooter elements with mechanics that are typical of role-playing video games, such as, character building, quests and randomly generated items/loot. Another fine touch to the gameplay is the implementation of a collaborative multiplayer campaign. As in previous Borderlands titles, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! is focuses on four playable characters; these characters were showcased as thugs (NPCs) who worked for Handsome Jack, the main villain of Borderlands 2, in the previous title. The gameplay of this game will be similar to that of Borderlands 2, however, the mechanics have been tweaked to make it much more compelling. Two new kinds of weapons have been added to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, they are - items that have a cryogenic elemental effect which freeze and slow enemies down, and, laser guns.
