This single-player game takes place in an open world environment where Aloy can explore freely. The protagonist can take advantage of a wide range of weapons and a spear, as well as stealth tactics to combat the Machines. Aloy must use all of her knowledge, intelligence and agility to survive each combat. As a player, you can also loot the remains of these mechanized creatures for resources, and are also allowed to undertake side quests.
The game’s most compelling element is perhaps its combat, all thanks to the various species of animal-like machines that roam the stunning far-future expanse of this post-apocalyptic world. Various components of these machine-beasts, such as their electricity and the metal they are composed of, are vital to Aloy's survival. The Machines have several weak points that can be scanned using Aloy’s Focus device. Hitting different points of these fearsome beasts can have different results that can change the way a fight plays out. For instance, shoot the cargo sac of a giant fire-spewing Bellowback to set off a massive explosion. Send a piercing arrow into the armoured sac of a flying ice-shooting Glinthawk to temporarily freeze the bird. You get the drift, right?
You don’t just fight machines in this action role-playing video game. There are hostile humans too that populate the bandit camps peppered throughout this massive open world. Destroying these camps is one of the many incidental side activities in the game. You’ll have to dig ancient bunkers for clues from the past, track the Machines through dedicated hunting grounds, and climb to the top of a Tallneck to unlock more of the map. You can trade the loot for currency to buy better weapons.
With a PEGI (Pan European Game Information) rating of 16, this single-player video game is suitable for persons of the age 16 years and above.
Horizon Zero Dawn is made for the PS4 gaming console.
